The iranian C130 are in good shape. But this isnt forever. Are there plans by Iran to buy other transport aircraft, maybe Y-20?

I believe Iran should look to Ukraine for such a procurement, they're in such a state rn Iran may be able to acquire TOT for the An-70.

Good to see you posting in the forum, Ich.

I'm not aware of any plans by Iran to buy transport aircraft, but even so, the Y-20 would not be the proper replacement for the C-130. The Y-20 is a strategic transport (based on the Il-76), while the C-130 is a tactical transport. The Chinese equivalent to the C-130 is the Shaanxi Y-9.

That would be good, but I don't think Ukraine would be able to sell to Iran given their current relations with the US.

Yes, would also be a good choice, but Ukraine is under controll of the US/EU. So Iran can have the wellknown problems with sanctions.

Ah, me dont know this chinese one. That could be a good replacement for the C130. At least it would be more riskless to buy this one cause Iran could buy spare parts even if sanctioned or in war.

C-130 is really one of the best transport aircraft..unfortunately Russian transport and civil aircrafts are not that good as western counterparts but there are few good and proven models... Unlike fighter aircraft I think transport aircraft is actually something Iran could built itself...or at.worst licensed.production...at worst they could import some.parts for first batch but as I can see it is liekely we Iran will buy some transport aircrafts in batch qith fighters...I read somewhere that Iran, with fighter fleet, also want to buy few tankers and transport aircrafts but this was shadowed by news about possible purchase of foghter aircfats..I will try to find airticle and post it here.Bad thing for Iram is,when it comes to any military equipment, very limited countries where tjey can buy...even when limits on import/export of offensive weapons are lifted in 2020 still US will use influence to prevent weapons sales from countries they have influence... I remember after JCPAO was signed that even Franch company offered Iran Mirrage for sale...but in situation we have now...only countries where Iran can buy aircrafts are China and Russia...and add fact that China doesn't have aircraft to offer Iran as main aircraft which must be two engime, long range air superiority aircraft than it leaves Russia as only country tjat can offer main aircraft for Iran.Chima can only export aircrafts built with Chinese made parts or parts they have license for....which mean only modern aircrafts they can offer are JF17 and J10 and none of them could be Iran main aircraft...these can anly be addons... When we look F14 for example...even if replaced by SU30,Iran will have to buy at least 2 SU30 for every F14... since F14 can simultaneously emgage 2 or 3 time more targets(depending on variant)and also can track 2x more targets....This is one of the most important thing when you look fighter aircraft performanse...F14 is beast... It is literary like you have flying S400.... it can detect and engage 6 targets simultaneously before enemy can even detect F14 and from ranges where jamming has no impact...That is why these 40+ tomcats worth like 70-80 other aircrafts...Ideal combination for Iran would be SU30 +SU35 as main aircrafts and few point defense fighters like mig29 smt or mig35...but it could be J10 also.If Iran would be forced to buy from China as only option than they would have to buy huge number of aircrafts and few AWACS...

I think it would be interesting if Iran makes it's own version of AC-130 gunship

Iran changed C-130's radars
